Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: -Be at least 18 years old, be a Permanent Resident of the United States with a valid Permanent Resident Card, have held Permanent Resident status for a minimum of 5 years, or 3 years if they are spouses of US Citizens, and have resided in the state where they are applying for at least 3 months. -Possess the ability to read, write, and speak basic English (subject to certain exemptions based on age and length of Permanent Residency). Successfully pass a test covering US history and the principles of the US government. Exhibit good moral character. -Be prepared to perform service for the United States when required by law. Commit to supporting the Constitution of the United States. Be willing to take an Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Exemptions to the English requirements apply to applicants who are over 50 years of age and have 20 years of Permanent Residency, applicants who are over 55 years of age and have 15 years of Permanent Residency, applicants who have a disability that prevents them from fulfilling the requirement. Applicants who are over 65 years of age will be asked 10 questions from a list of 20 in their native language. What’s next for the applicants? They will mail in their applications along with their fees, and wait for their interviews! They will be busy from now until then. Corazón provides free classes for applicants so they may pass their interviews on the first try. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Winters Community Library. There are no babysitting services available, but children and spouses are welcome to enjoy the computers in air-conditioned comfort while applicants study. The library has friendly and helpful bilingual staff to assist all patrons, including applicants. Los solicitantes deben cumplir con los siguientes requisitos: - Tener al menos 18 años, ser residente permanente de Estados Unidos con una tarjeta de Residente Permanente válida, haber tenido la Residencia Permanente por al menos 5 años, o 3 años si son esposos de ciudadanos estadounidenses, y haber residido en el estado donde solicitan la ciudadanía durante al menos 3 meses. - Poder leer, escribir y hablar inglés básico (sujeto a ciertas exenciones según la edad y la duración de la residencia permanente). Aprobar un examen sobre la historia y los principios del gobierno estadounidense. Demostrar buena conducta moral. - Estar dispuesto a prestar servicio a los Estados Unidos cuando la ley lo exija. Comprometerse a apoyar la Constitución de los Estados Unidos. Estar dispuesto a prestar juramento y lealtad a los Estados Unidos. Se aplican excepciones del requisito de inglés a los solicitantes mayores de 50 años con 20 años de residencia permanente, mayores de 55 años con 15 años de residencia permanente y quienes tengan una discapacidad que les impida cumplir con el requisito. A los solicitantes mayores de 65 años se les harán 10 preguntas de una lista de 20 en su idioma nativo. ¿Qué les espera a los solicitantes? ¡Deberán enviar sus solicitudes por correo junto con sus cuotas y esperar su entrevista!
